Service of Issuance of Approval Letters to Enter Vietnam

An approval letter for entry into Vietnam is a document approved by the Immigration Department for foreigners entering Vietnam. In order to apply for an approval letter, sponsoring agencies/organizations of the foreigner must submit applications to the Immigration Department for issuance of an approval letter to the foreigner so that this person can enter Vietnam. If approved in writing, the Immigration Department will issue an official letter called an approval letter.

Depending on purposes of entering Vietnam (travel, visiting relatives, employment ...) the procedures for applying for the approval letter will be different, currently there are two ways for foreigners to enter Vietnam: obtaining a visa at Vietnamese Embassy or Vietnamese General Consulate abroad and obtaining a Vietnamese visa at an international border gate such as an airport or a border gate such as Moc Bai, Cam Ranh, etc. by an approval letter for entry into Vietnam issued by the Immigration Department of Vietnam.

Conditions for applying for an approval letter to enter Vietnam

Agencies or organizations need to submit dossiers evidencing their legal person status at the Immigration Department of the Ministry of Public Security before carrying out the procedures for welcoming guests into Vietnam.
Foreigners or Vietnamese holding foreign passports shall not be permitted to enter Vietnam if they are in the category of persons who are "not permitted to enter Vietnam" in accordance with the provisions of Vietnam law.

Law on Entry, Exit, Transit, And Residence Of Foreigners In Vietnam is provided for in Law No. 47/2014/QH13 dated 16 June 2014.

Steps to take

Step 1: Preparing all dossiers

Step 2: Submitting dossiers

The applicant or his/her representative shall submit the dossiers to Immigration Department of the Ministry of Public Security.

Step 3: Waiting for approval

Official receiving the documents and checking the legality of the documents:

+ If they are complete, valid, he/she will receive them, print and give a receipt, and assign a date of giving the result.

+ If they are not valid, he/she will guide the applicant to supplement more documents

Step 4: Receiving results

The person who receives the result shall give the receipt to the officer for check and comparison and giving the result of approving personnel and granting permission for entry (including cases where the applicant isn’t granted an approval letter) then this person shall sign as confirmation.

Processing time: Within 5 working days from the date of receipt of complete dossiers in case where the foreigner receives a visa at a Vietnamese representative office in foreign countries and within 3 working days from the date of receipt of complete dossiers in case where the foreigner receives a visa at a border gate.
